For The Love of Soccer: Insights and Tips for Navigating Youth Soccer and Beyond
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world with about 3.5 billion fans globally. Its popularity has continued to rise in the US over the past 3 decades. According to the NFHS, in 2022 over 800,000 students played on high school soccer teams which makes soccer the fourth most popular sport in high school participation behind football, basketball, and track. This is a far cry from the 1970’s when only 50,000 students played and it ranked outside of the top ten in popularity. In addition, according to the U.S Youth Soccer Association, approximately 3 million children between the ages of 5 and 19 play organized soccer in the United States making it the top spot for youth sports.
While soccer can be both a fun and challenging sport, it can range from being easily accessible and affordable to an expensive pay-to-play sport that leaves many priced out of the higher levels of competition. Just like any other sport, there are players who love the game, some who want to play at a high level, and some who have dreams of playing in college or professionally. Navigating all the options, leagues, and teams over a youth’s soccer journey can be confusing and frustrating for both the player and the parent. At CCCSoccer, our goal is to provide some insight and support into that journey.
